Teeccino's Ingredients

Teeccino’s Mediterranean and Maya flavor lines are based on three nutritious ingredients that are all certified organic: carob pods, barley and chicory root. Other ingredients like dates, almonds, figs and ramon nuts bring their distinctive flavor characteristics to create the taste distinctions between Teeccino’s Mediterranean flavors, which are slightly sweet and nutty, and the Maya flavors, which are unsweetened for a pure, coffee-like flavor profile.

Carob

Carob pods are highly nutritious and contain a variety of antioxidants known as flavonoids. Carob shares flavonoids in common with tea that have been studied to be highly effective in humans for protecting cells against free radical damage.

Barley

Roasted barley is a popular coffee alternative in Italy where it is known as "Caffé d'orzo". Every coffee bar in Italy serves orzo brewed like cappuccinos or coffee!

Chicory root

Roasted chicory root is the popular coffee alternative in France. French coffee is famous for its smooth, less acidic flavor because approximately 30% of French coffee is roasted chicory root. Another variety of chicory produces endive...

Dates & Figs

Dates and figs slightly sweeten Teeccino's Mediterranean flavors without adding significantly to the calories per serving. Dates and figs contain antioxidants that are water soluble and extract during brewing.

Ramon Nuts

Teeccino's Maya flavors feature roasted ramon nuts, a nutrient-rich food of the Maya civilization. Ramon nuts are actually the seed of the ramon fruit. Ramon nuts do not contain tree allergens like almonds, walnuts and pecans.

Almonds

Teeccino's Mediterranean flavors contain golden roasted almonds that create a rich, nutty flavor yet don't add any fat to a cup of Teeccino. Almonds also contain significant quantities of antioxidants including proanthocyanidins (OPCs) and...

Natural Flavors

Teeccino selects the highest quality, pure natural flavors that are made from flavoring constituents that are extracted from natural ingredients like fruits, spices, herbs and even coffee.

Teeccino Health Benefits

Enjoy Teeccino's Nutritious Health Benefits

Herbal Coffee Health Every cup of Teeccino is brimming with nutritious health benefits that are naturally released during brewing from Teeccino’s herbs, grains, fruits and nuts. These nutrients are quickly absorbable from brewed Teeccino because the nutrients are suspended in liquid so digestion isn’t needed to remove them from fiber.

In many ways, Teeccino rebalances the negative effects of coffee. For instance, Teeccino is excellent for people with digestive health conditions because it is non-acidic and contains the prebiotic, inulin. Inulin is a soluble fiber from chicory root that supports a healthy population of beneficial digestive flora, so necessary for good digestive health.

Coffee, on the other hand, is highly acidic and along with its caffeine content, coffee can over-stimulate the digestive tract aggravating health problems for people with gastrointestinal conditions like acid reflux and IBS.

Another example is heart health. Teeccino provides two heart-healthy nutrients, potassium, an electrolyte mineral, and soluble fiber. Potassium helps prevent strokes and high blood pressure. Soluble fiber lowers total cholesterol. Drinking several cups of Teeccino daily provides nutrients that support good cardiovascular health.

Caffeine, however, is a central nervous stimulant that makes the heart beat faster and can increase blood pressure. Coffee drinking has been shown to increase blood pressure in sensitive individuals. Caffeine’s effect on heart beats can stress the heart in people who have heart conditions. Decaf coffee has been shown to raise cholesterol and produce the “jitters” even though it has less caffeine than regular coffee.

Like any drug, caffeine withdrawal can cause many undesirable symptoms such as headaches, irritability, and nausea. Slowly weaning oneself off coffee by mixing Teeccino into your morning brew, and increasing the ratio of Teeccino to coffee for 3 weeks, has proven a successful plan to quit coffee, while still enjoying the taste of coffee, with little or no withdrawal symptoms!

Energy is the reason why many people drink coffee. With Teeccino, people experience an energy boost that comes from nutrients, not stimulants like caffeine. A cup of Teeccino keeps energy steady and balanced, but won’t provide that spike and subsequent crash that you can experience from too much coffee. Although many people drink coffee to get “energy”, they are really putting themselves in a state called “flight or fight syndrome”, which is a stress response that triggers alertness along with a host of stress reactions throughout the body. Getting off of the caffeine rollercoaster ride of sudden highs followed by lows in energy is one of the benefits of drinking Teeccino!

Our commitment is to produce nutritious, organic products that help people build optimal health and enjoy a natural, abundant energy supply by following a healthy lifestyle.

About Caroline's Teas

Meet the queen of caffeine-free herbal teas!

As a person sensitive to caffeine, Caroline's curiosity about herbs was sparked by a box of strawberry leaves that she saw in 1968 at a fledgling natural food store. "I wonder if they taste like strawberries?" she pondered. Ever since that moment, Caroline has been experimenting to discover the best tasting botanicals in the world.

Caroline's teas depend on the flavor bouquet of the herbs themselves. It is Caroline's philosophy that the herbal beverage drinker should be able to detect at least three or four flavor notes in a well balanced blend. Essential oils and concentrates naturally extracted from fruits, herbs, nuts and spices may be added to enhance an herbal blend, but not overpower it.

The palate's interest in an herbal beverage can be kept intrigued and delighted by complexity or it can become exhausted from an over-dominant flavor supplied by commercial flavor houses. Like a fine wine compared to a mass produced one, much depends on the subtlety, variety, and depth of the flavor components of the blend.

Caroline delights in traveling the world to find ethnic herbs and spices with unique flavors to enhance her teas. Over the years, her teas have introduced herbs, which are commonly eaten or drunk in other countries, to the American market for the first time.

As a pioneer in herbal beverages, Caroline introduced rooibos, the red tea, with The Republic of Tea and tulsi, India's "Queen of Herbs" with Organic India. Caroline was the first tea designer to make caffeine-free chai starting with her early work with Yogi Tea in the 1980's and later in the 90's with rooibos for a full-bodied brew that blends well with milk.

Caroline MacDougall's Teas

All of Caroline's teas are safe to drink daily and are caffeine-free unless otherwise noted.
